World Turtle Day
The indicated date in the world calendar coincides with a very unusual holiday - Turtle Day. From time immemorial, these animals have symbolized wisdom and longevity. The birth of an unusual holiday took place in 2000, when the American Society for the Salvation of Turtles decided to establish this day. And society itself was organized in 1990 by Californian activists fighting to maintain animal balance on the planet.
The purpose of World Turtle Day is to attract people to the problems of the extinction of a huge number of turtles due to their close proximity to people. Therefore, the holiday is annually accompanied by various actions in the habitats of these reptiles. During mass events, everyone can help the turtles by constructing crossings for them under the highway, as well as in other busy and dangerous places.
Recently, World Turtle Day has spread around the world so much that it is celebrated not only in their habitats, but also in many other corners of the globe. Today, many people, in solidarity, refuse to eat dishes from turtles and purchase household items made from their shells (various caskets, crests, etc.). On this day, some countries hold a real "turtle" celebration, which includes costume masquerades with chants and dances, as well as funny performances in honor of these cute animals.

On May 23, the memory of St. Simon Kananit, who was one of the associates and disciples of Christ, is commemorated in the folk calendar. According to legend, the righteous preached in Egypt, Judea and Libya. According to some reports, Simon also stayed in Britain. May 23, 1909 - In St. Petersburg, the grand opening of the monument to Alexander III
The consecration and the grand opening ceremony of the monument were held in St. Petersburg on Znamenskaya Square near Moscow Station. At the opening of the monument was attended by the emperor himself, the entire royal court and the troops of the Petersburg garrison. And the service was held under the leadership of Metropolitan Anthony. The area for erecting the monument was not chosen by chance. Alexander the Third was the "sovereign founder of the Siberian Way", originating from the Moscow (at that time Nikolaev) station.
An outstanding sculptor P. Trubetskoy worked on the creation of the monument. The artist’s collection contained many works, however, the monument to Alexander III became his best composition. The customers of the construction were the entire imperial family. Eight years Trubetskoy worked on this image, and only the third time he managed to recreate the creation, made in accordance with the requirements of the emperor. In 1939, the monument was moved to Mikhailovsky Park, where it stood for many years, and in 1994 it was placed in front of the entrance to the Marble Palace.

With the unconditional surrender of Germany (1945), power in the country fell into the hands of military governors. At that time, the state was divided into four zones: American, Soviet, French and English. In the context of the Cold War and the growing confrontation between the West and the Soviet Union, it was impossible to revive a single German state. Therefore, the West decided to form it in the territories that were under its occupation control. So, on May 8, 1949, the Parliamentary Council adopted a draft of the future state, prepared by a committee of German experts in constitutional rights.
The name of the project (Federal Republic of Germany) was given by T. Hayes - later the first president of Germany. On May 23 of the same year, the law establishing the Federal Republic of Germany entered into force. Finally, a new state of Germany was formed in the western zone. The city of Bonn was chosen as the new capital.
