Goatskin pharmacy, (Galega galega) - a perennial plant of the legume family. This herbaceous plant has a thick rhizome, a powerful bushy stem, tall, hairless or scattered, up to 1 meter high. The leaf is pinnate, complex, located in the amount of 6-8 pairs on one stem, moth flowers grow from the axils of the leaves in the upper part, are collected in hanging brushes, purple-yellow or blue with white wings. Fruits - pointed beans, with seeds in the amount of 3-7 pieces, which do not crack on their own. Flowering period is July. This plant is a honey plant and is cultivated as animal feed.
Goat House - species and places of growth
In the steppe zone, the plant has various names; its species are found: goat, rutevka, ruta, forest malt, galega. In wooded areas, eastern and medicinal species grow. In the Caucasus, there are 2 forms of eastern goatskin - North Caucasus and Lori.
In the wild, the medicinal goat family, or galega, can be found in the steppe regions near marshes and ditches, it prefers lowlands and the surroundings of marshy streams, sometimes it forms real thickets. The plant is widespread in the Caucasus, in particular in Georgia, Dagestan, Armenia, as well as in Russia and Ukraine, in Moldova. This plant is considered endemic to Russia and the CIS. At present, it is grown in Europe, Asia Minor, and the Mediterranean.
Goatskin - medicinal properties
The beneficial properties of this medicinal plant have been known since the 17th century, when it began to be used in Western Europe. Home therapy uses this plant as a carrier of diuretic, antibacterial and anthelmintic properties. Medicinal goatberry has one very rare property - it has a lactogenic effect and can be used to increase the amount of milk in women in labor (the name "galegin" is associated with the Greek "gala" - milk). It contains the alkaloid galegin, which affects the concentration of sugar in the blood, this effect is used in the treatment of diabetes, although with not neglected forms of the disease. The plant can be useful for snakebites and to reduce sweating.
Goatskin - dosage forms
Traditional medicine does not use this plant, but for the needs of phytotherapy, the aerial part is collected in the form of the tops of flowering plants and seeds. The grass is quickly dried in the shade in the fresh air, 3 kg of raw material is used to obtain 1 kg of the dry mixture. Seeds are obtained from ripened fruits dried in the sun, a bag of beans is threshed with sticks and sifted on wire racks. Alkaloids and vitamins P, B and C, tannins and flavonoids contained in the goat house may be of interest for normalizing the metabolism of folk remedies. Also unsaturated organic acids were found in flowers and leaves, and fatty oils, phytosteroid and sugar were found in seeds.
Goat House - recipes
- Decoctions of seeds from worms are prepared 1:20.
